Additional Information

Please join us for the May monthly virtual educational series to learn about different syndromes with Terry Broda. This series will review Prader-Willi Syndrome. As advocates for persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, nurses need to become more familiar with common genetic and metabolic syndromes and the various complex medical issues that can occur in these individuals. These 1-hr sessions will provide a succinct overview of various genetic syndromes, autism & a metabolic disorder, including specific co-morbid medical issues and mental health concerns for each. The often-subtle presentation of these illnesses, which can frequently include challenging behaviors, will be reviewed briefly.  Helpful intervention strategies and resources will also be provided. Short case examples will be used to illustrate these points for the covered syndromes.
